Holiday symbols link & HER FRONT DOOR, a poem

by Sr. Andrew John

She hurried to the mall
before each holiday.
She loved the plastic wreaths,
the frothy angels,
the pumpkins, ghosts,
flags, shamrocks,

And the garlanded straw
hats for the spaces on her calendar.

One day she bought a pair
of armed cupids
perched on a red, lacy, heart.
They aimed their plastic
arrows at her.

She hung them,
smiled sadly,
closed the door.
